Robson Ranch Music Club Hoping for Higher Notes in the New Year
November 15, 2020

Frances Hackley, Publicity Chair

The Robson Ranch Music Club is really hoping for some high notes in the new year. The pandemic has, this year, only produced low ones.
The club has not been able to do any of their events or concerts.
The realization that the year was ending on an A note (on the Bass Clef scale) came when the annual Christmas Concert was ultimately cancelled.
Still, in this month of Thanksgiving, we are thankful for a community of thoughtful and caring folks.
A community of people that is always ready and willing to support us.

In the new year, the club looks forward to the St Patrick’s Day Karaoke and in April, the Spring Concert.
Hopefully both these events will happen and resonate a much more harmonic note for the start of the new year.
The spring concert will be “That ’70s Show, best music of the ’70s,” which was originally scheduled for last spring.

One good thing that usually happens, as in the ’70s, good songs are written when folks encounter dark times.
Songs like “Tears in Heaven,” by Eric Clapton after his son’s death, “Lean on Me” written when Bill Withers moved to L.A.,
finding himself lonely and in despair, and “Everybody Hurts” by R.E.M. member Bill Berry while pulling himself out of depression.
Other songs like “We are the World” by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney were written to unite the world while shining the light on world hunger. Remember, “I Will Survive,” actually written by two men and performed by Gloria Gaynor, is about surviving a terrible breakup then ultimately turning into a female empowerment song. There are numerous examples.

Songs have always been a means to lift, calm, excite, inspire, and unite the human spirit.
Hopefully, some are being written right now. Some songs end up turning into anthems.
For instance, the song “You’ll Never Walk Alone” is right now being used in Europe and the UK as the banner song for medical staff and first responders.

The club hopes all have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends.
Remember to “Keep a song in your heart when things go wrong, keep a song in your heart, a happy song”—Lizzie DeArmand.
